Colin Tizzard's Thistlecrack will aim to bag Ladbrokes World Hurdle glory when he lines up in the showpiece event on day three of the Cheltenham Festival, but there will be some notable stayers lining up in what is one of the most exciting races in the National Hunt calendar.

Cole Harden was a fine winner of the race 12 months ago and will aim to retain the crown for Warren Greatrex, whilst all eyes will be on Willie Mullins to see whether he unleashes Annie Power or Vroum Vroum Mag in the three-mile Grade 1 event, which takes place on March 17.

World Hurdle History

The world Hurdle has a long and varied history and in recent years in particular it has become more and more and popular as the feature race on Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival.

There have been some iconic winners of the World Hurdle on modern times with Baracouda, Inglis Drever and Big Buck's dominating the race between them over the past 15 years. Inglis Drever is without doubt a World Hurdle Legend winning the race three times in four years during the mid 2000's and the punters latched onto him as they loved his heart and stamina especially up the Cheltenham hill.
